Heritage Community Park Bridge

The Heritage Community Park Bridge Project at Heritage Community Park represents a significant infrastructure investment aimed at improving structural integrity, multi-modal functionality, and long-term resilience across the Demens Creek Channel.

The project involved the demolition and replacement of three existing timber bridge structures with a new, engineered multi-use bridge system designed to safely accommodate vehicular, pedestrian, and equestrian traffic. The structure was designed in accordance with AASHTO and Caltrans standards, incorporating current load ratings and seismic design criteria to ensure durability and compliance with modern engineering practices.

Key engineering components of the bridge include:

  • Ten 24-inch diameter cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) pile foundations, with five piles at each abutment, extending approximately 42 feet in depth to provide deep foundation support
  • Reinforced concrete abutments founded on CIDH piles for enhanced structural stability
  • Reinforced concrete bridge deck designed for multi-load conditions
  • Reinforced concrete barriers to safely separate vehicular, pedestrian, and equestrian uses
  • Chain link fencing to further delineate and protect multi-use pathways

Additional project improvements included site grading, construction of retaining walls and fencing along the San Bernardino County Flood Control District patrol road, sidewalks, and roadway reconstruction to improve alignment and access to the bridge. The project also incorporated energy-efficient lighting, ADA-compliant access pathways, and safety features such as guardrails and railings. Landscaping and revegetation efforts were implemented to stabilize disturbed soils and restore the surrounding park environment.

The project required extensive coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the San Bernardino County Flood Control District to secure environmental clearances and permits, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Overall, the project enhances public safety, improves accessibility, and provides a durable, low-maintenance infrastructure solution for the City of Rancho Cucamonga.
