Aufbau provided construction inspection and construction management support services for East Avenue master plan storm drain project. The project consisted of removing the existing pavement and underlying storm drain infrastructure in order to construct approximately 6,700 linear feet of mainline reinforced concrete pipes and reinforced concrete box structures, with laterals, catch basins, and appurtenances. The project extended from Foothill Boulevard to just north of Base Line Road along the city boundaries of the City of Rancho Cucamonga and Fontana. Reinforced concrete box structures, with transition structures at ends, were constructed at those locations where the proposed 96-inch diameter mainline reinforced concrete pipes were in conflict with existing wet and dry utility crossings.

A challenging phase of the project was installation of a 96-inch diameter reinforced concrete pipe under Interstate 15 undercrossing, where excavation of up to 24’ was required for the placement of the pipe – where there was a relatively low vertical clearance between the roadway and the undercrossing. Another challenge was installation of a 96-inch diameter reinforced concrete pipe under Base Line Road which was conducted by pipe-jacking to avoid open cut trenching and to maintain traffic flow on Base Line Road.

Through extensive coordination and partnering with the City of Rancho Cucamonga, City of Fontana, and Caltrans District 8, the contractor completed the project on schedule.
